Check out the reviews and comparisons for the Salomon Discovery GTX vs Danner TFX Boot Review and you make the best choice for your feet on your next big hike or long distance event.

When it comes to high-quality hiking and outdoor footwear, Salomon and Danner are both well-respected brands known for their durability and performance. In this detailed comparison review, we’ll examine the Salomon Discovery GTX and Danner TFX Boots across various aspects to help you make an informed choice for your outdoor adventures.

Design and Build:

The Salomon Discovery GTX boots are designed with a modern, athletic-style look. They feature a synthetic and mesh upper, which provides excellent breathability and lightweight comfort. The Gore-Tex membrane ensures waterproof and breathable performance, making them suitable for various weather conditions. The boots incorporate Salomon’s signature Sensifit technology, which offers a secure and glove-like fit, enhancing stability on the trail.

In contrast, the Danner TFX boots have a more traditional, military-inspired design. They feature a combination of full-grain leather and 1000 Denier nylon for rugged durability and protection against abrasion. The TFX platform offers stability and support, and the boots come with a breathable GORE-TEX lining for waterproofing and moisture management.

Question: What is a good way to protect your toes and feet from getting blisters during hiking?

Put this on your toes and feet and add a good pair of socks and you will be good to go.

We know guys who have used this cream and gone through GORUCK and Spartan Races with no blisters at all.

You can pick up a tube or Trail Toes for about $13 and this is cheap insurance to protect your feet. My buddy got blisters on his toes and I let him borrow a little bit. I bailed him out and he bought me beers later so it was a good deal for both of us.

Comfort and Fit:

The Salomon Discovery GTX boots are known for their out-of-the-box comfort. The Sensifit technology, along with the OrthoLite sockliner, provides a cushioned and supportive fit. The boots are designed for lightweight trekking and hiking, making them comfortable for long hours on the trail.

Danner TFX boots offer a comfortable fit as well, but they might require a bit more break-in time due to their full-grain leather construction. Once broken in, they provide excellent support for extended hikes. The boots feature a cushioned insole for added comfort.

Traction and Performance:

The Salomon Discovery GTX boots come equipped with a Contagrip outsole, which offers reliable traction on a variety of terrains. Their lightweight design and flexible construction make them well-suited for day hikes, trail running, and light backpacking.

Danner TFX boots, on the other hand, feature a Vibram outsole that provides excellent traction and durability. They are designed for more rugged terrain and can handle heavier loads. The TFX platform offers stability, making these boots suitable for longer treks and challenging environments.

Weight and Portability:

The Salomon Discovery GTX boots are significantly lighter in weight compared to the Danner TFX boots, making them more portable and suitable for those who prioritize lightweight gear for faster-paced outdoor activities.

Salomon Discovery GTX boot review
I’ve worn – and worn out – many pairs of Merrell, LL Bean, Vasque, Keene, and other boots over the years. Most of them have been okay, though my bunions have split seams (Vasque) and Arizona rocks have worn treads early (Merrell). Salomon boots aren’t perfect either, but they have consistently been the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn, both out of the box and two years later when there’s no tread left. This is my third pair, and once again they are a delight.

First let me start by saying I am merely a day hiker, nothing extreme or expedition. That being said I have worn merrell boots for alot of years. So this time around I needed something a little higher for support and wow. These things do fit like a slipper they are extremely comfortable to wear.

The laces are tough since I usually pull pretty hard on them and the hook lace system I have always preferred. Some people say these fit like a ski boat and I could see that perhaps as Salomon makes Ski Boots. I just got back from a weekend from leyus caves to mt. adams and goldendale area. I forgot I was even wearing these things.

What I mean by that is, “there wasn’t anything I noticed like heel strikes, sore foot, blisters or anything that would even have me look down as if something felt wrong. My new favorite hiking shoe/boot.

Danner TFX Desert Rough Out Review
I just got back from Afghanistan. I wore these boots everyday for a year. Wore them out as a matter of fact. That’s why I’m here buying another pair exactly like my last ones. I will say that the Danner TFX Desert Rough out is one of the the best military boot I’ve ever owned. They are fantastic under heavy loads, and I don’t find the lacing to be an issue. I’ll not own another kind, given the choice. Extreme hot, extreme cold. 100% satisfied, and I’m coming back for more.

These boots came highly recommended from a buddy I was overseas with, now I highly recommend them to you. They are VERY comfortable, light and perfect for desert Ops. My first pair was cut off when I got wounded but I’m back to order another pair. I have worn several brands of boots in numerous Middle East countries and covered many miles in each, but these are the best. Sure the sole gets a little worn but they surpass any other boot I’ve had. I’ve had boots that didn’t last 6 months of harsh punishment on my feet and these were great for over a year and they still had several klicks left in them. Do yourself a favor and buy a pair. On an extra note, it is a very good idea (with all tactical boots) to try a pair on first for the appropriate fit.

Conclusion:

In summary, the choice between the Salomon Discovery GTX and Danner TFX boots depends on your specific outdoor needs. If you’re looking for lightweight, comfortable boots for day hikes and light backpacking, the Salomon Discovery GTX boots are an excellent choice. However, if you require rugged, durable boots with exceptional stability for more challenging terrain and longer treks, the Danner TFX boots are a solid option. Ultimately, both brands offer high-quality footwear, so your decision should align with your intended use and personal preferences.
