Gear Review: TRU-SPEC 24-7 Vector Pants

TRU-SPEC 24-7 Vector PantsI know it’s a bit odd to review pants. Pants are pants are pants, right? Wrong!

The Vector 24/7’s from Truspec had me thoroughly impressed when I wore them on a 8+ mile ruck in the Georgia mountains. They are lightweight, flexible, and very breathable.

Unlike some other BDU pants I’ve worn, these wick away any moisture very, very quickly, and I felt like I had more mobility in them. Lifting a boot up high to get over a felled tree or massive rock, I didn’t feel like I was fighting my clothing like I do when I wear milsurp or standard issue BDU pants.

But these pants not only are comfortable, lightweight, and moisture wicking – they have bells and whistles – more so than most tactical pants I’ve worn. On first inspection, I noticed the waistband. It was stretchy, getting rid of the old school BDU style cinch straps, and had a silicone lining which keeps the pants where they are, and allegedly serve a secondary purpose as a shirt stay.

You want pockets? We got pockets. There are 2 pairs of back pockets, called accessory pockets, and ones on the side to accomodate a folding knife.

Deep front pockets as well, these have front slash cargo pockets, with internal comparments of their own,
perfect for a radio, pen, light, or extra mags.

Behind to the cargo pockets are 2 smaller ones (one on each side), roughly the size of a cell phone or notepad.

This I liked very much, as I didn’t need to stow my phone in my pack to know  it was secured, I had it in what seemed like a specially designed pouch.

To top it off, the pants have reinforced knees, with internal pouches for knee pads – great for LEO or PMCs that don’t want to deal with clunky external knee protection. They also have a Teflon coating which helps with color retention.

Overall, after wearing these for several hours, loaded out with a heavy pack across many miles, I was dry and comfortable. I had plenty of gear within reach without the need to mess with my pack – namely phone, map, compass, and flashlight, with plenty of room to spare.

You have plenty of room for the essentials, extra ammo, a folding knife, or whatever else you can think of.

The teflon coating helps friction, and they breathe, which really helps keep you cool in the line of duty or on a long ruck. I’d recommend these pants to LEOs, first responders, civilians headed out to the woods to ruck or hunt, or at the range.
