This Casio is THE watch to get! i’ve used suunto before but the battery was absolute crap, 2 batteries in one month once!! gah! with this watch you NEVER HAVE to worry about the battery! here are some of the awesome things that i love about this watch!
-solar charged (no more batteries EVER)
-you never have to take this watch off
-waterproof (from the shower to snorkeling in the rock quarry)
-extremely durable (can take a beating)
-looks good, so it can be worn to the office AND the backcountry
-has very good compass function
-non-stop barometer graph on main screen
-has moon phases, sunrise and sunsets, tide, timer, stopwatch, and alarm
-perfect size (not too bulky)
-automatic radio signal received 6 times daily
-can go 6 months with only one solar charge, and up to 20 months in sleep mode
The watch should retain usable accuracy for a backcountry trip, with proper calibration beforehand. To be honest, the most important part of the Casio Protrek is the barometric trend. Whether or not your watch will match the news or local weather barometric pressure is not relevant, it will mirror the overall trend of the barometer, even if the numbers are high or low. It’s the trend that’s important, not the numbers.

This watch rocks, keeps track of my vert biking, hiking, and skiing. I love the sun up and sun down times because I am always trying to squeeze in a few more laps before the sun goes down. The memory for the Suunto Core Sport Watch is awesome for comparing laps. I haven’t had any problems with the battery thus far. All in all its been a great watch and looks sick too!

I’ve had mine for probably 3 years now, and wear it all the time. It’s bomb-proof, although I do wish the glass was a bit more scratch-resistant. Maybe the new version is? I’ve done an expedition to the top of Aconcagua with this thing, and it’s altimeter was accurate down to a few feet. I love the large display on the Suunto Core Sport Watch, that makes it easy to see your stats when running. It’s super easy to use, and the buttons seem are still kickin’ strong. I have the brown-leather one, so it’s a classy looking piece, and I get mad compliments on it, like “hey, that’s a sweet watch!”. Word. In a nutshell- a bomber watch that just keeps ticking.
