How to Study for BUD/S math test

brad-mcleod-graduate-BUDS I failed out of Navy SEAL BUDS training on a math test.

I was over half way through and had finished Dive Pool Comp.

I was removed from BUDS Class 125 and sent to the fleet Navy for a year and chip paint and swab the deck. Don’t be that guy.

I wish I would have spent 20 hours or so studying the Dive tables test forwards and backwards until I could do the problems in my sleep.

BUDS Dive Phase

Study now and be ahead of the curve.

While I was in the fleet Navy on the USS Cleveland (LPD-7) I studied basic math, algebra and pre-calculus and lots of math word problems.

I put in the extra work at night so that I could get back to Coronado and complete the training.

I came back in Class 132 and graduated with no failed evolutions or safety violations.

Quote from Stew Smith (Navy SEAL) “Also understand Algebra and Science, as you will see this math and physics in Dive Training when you apply Laws of Physics to the body while diving. Specifically Charles Law and Boyle’s Law will be used learning how to SCUBA Dive in the Navy.”

Question from our readers online.

Question: What is the difficulty of bud/s navy seal math test? The test are not that hard but you need to make sure you study now to be prepared.

Question: What is the best book to study for Navy SEAL ASVAB test?

I think you mean the military ASVAB test.

Check out the ASVAB Study Guide 2014: ASVAB Test Prep with Practice Questions to study and get ready for the ASVAB test.

Don’t wait till the last minute like me and start now.

Question: What is a good book that will let you know more of what to expect at BUDS?

We like the book Breaking BUD/S: How Regular Guys Can Become Navy SEALs as it tells you what to expect.

Yes; you will still have to train hard and be committed.

Question: So I’m in high school right now and my parents think I need the act to get into the navy after high school. I’m pretty sure I just need the asvab. Do I need the act or am I correct and just need the asvab? Also can you send me a list of work outs that they will do at buds? Dylan

Answer: Are you talking to your high school guidance counselor and Navy SEAL recruiter? They will have the best up to date info for you.

Question: Hey man, I’m sure you get these questions all the time, but I was wondering how old were you when you went to BUD/s? Also, you said you failed out the first time because of a math test. How bad are the academics to become a Seal?

Answer: I went to the Navy at 19 years old and started BUDS at 20 years old. If I had it to do over again I would enter the Navy the day after high school graduation. You have to have a good ASVAB score to get a contract. The math is not that hard you just have to study hard now while you are in high school.
