Having a plan and executing well leads Nathan Emdee to the finish line at his recent GORUCK Tough event.
Check out this SGPT interview with GORUCK Tough finisher Nathan Emdee as he spells out it out plain and simple on how to go out and get the job done.
SGPT: Tell us about yourself? Where are you from and where do you train?
NE: I work at UPS, I am from Kentucky. I train with my ruck club.
SGPT: Did you have an athletic background growing up?
NE: When I was in high school I tried out for the baseball, but did not make. I played one year of golf in my Senior year and got a varsity letter for it.
SGPT: Tell us a little about the event? Where was it?
NE: It was in remembrance for Exhortation 17 and was held in Louisville, Ky.
SGPT: How did you train for the GORUCK Tough?
NE: I trained with my Goruck club. I also used box breathing and training from the SGPT Facebook group.
SGPT: What was hardest part of the event?
NE: Having the foot speed for the time hacks.
SGPT: What kind of boots did you use for the event?
NE: I used the Marpot NF17 boots.
SGPT: Did you use double socks/liners or body glide on your feet to prevent blisters?
NE: I used both body glide and boot socks.
SGPT: What kind of ruck did you use for training and the event?
NE: I used the Rucker 4.0 version for both training and the actual event.
SGPT: What is one thing you wish you would have done to get ready for a GORUCK event?
NE: I wish that I had done more of the workouts.
SGPT: Any tips for up and coming athletes that want to do a GORUCK event?
NE: Get a sturdy ruck pack, not necessary a Goruck ruck but recommended. If you don’t like to run, then Goruck is right for you, if you don’t mind rucking with weight and miles.
SGPT: Do you have any events planned for 2023?
NE: Not at this moment. Although, looking at the beta 75 mile star course in D.C. Course in May 2023 with a time 26 hours.
SGPT: What good book are you reading now?
NE: I am reading “The Gray Man” by Mark Greaney.
SGPT: Many thanks for the interview Nathan.
NE: Thanks for having me on with SGPT.
