I came across the CRKT Exitool when I was looking for something for my wife’s car. I’ve seen the hammer type escape tools that you store in the center console – but I found them cumbersome, and thought they would be easily jostled around in the event of a cataclysmic crash or emergency. Enter the Exitool by Columbia River Knife And Tool.
This nifty little device clips right onto a seat belt, and stays there until you need it. It comes equipped with a small LED light, a tungsten carbide glass breaker, and a steel seat belt cutter. It also comes with stickers to affix to it, so that you can use it under duress. As many of you know, unless your train with high stress to operate when the adrenaline dump hits, making snap decisions or remembering complex tasks becomes difficult.
From there, you can manipulate the light (the switch is a tad small, but this was probably on purpose, so the switch wasn’t tripped accidentally and the battery drained), pop off the unit, and break the window with one deft motion.
Once you have an egress point, you can easily slash the belt and escape through the window.
I think this is a must for every vehicle, especially for the vehicles of your loved ones. They make a great holiday gift, and the price point is just right. For about $20 or less, you can give yourself and your loved ones peace of mind.
What we like. Easily used, rugged, lightweight, and serves its purpose in spades.
What we don’t like. None. Get one.
Update 8.2017 – The CRKT Exitool is still running duty in my wife’s car, and I rest much more assured knowing that it’s there. It’s a complete solution for emergency exit protocols from a vehicle, and low profile. You forget it’s there – that is until you need it. Grab one.
