Gear Review: Truspec 9″ Tac Assault Boots

I got a hold of some Truspec Tac Assault Boots 9″, and managed to test them out. I can say these are great boots for duty or training, for LEOs, PMCs, military personnel or civilians geared towards readiness or looking for something for the GORUCK.

On first impression, when unboxing,  I noticed how light the Tru-Spec TAC 9in Assault Boots were for something full size.

They are way lighter than milsurp boots of the same dimensions, and both more comfortable, and quieter in an urban setting.

For my LEOs and SWAT reading, the Tru-Spec TAC 9in Assault Boots really make little to no noise in an urban setting – whether on concrete or in a building; you won’t be heard coming.

They provide ample support to the ankle, and I can attest after taking these on an 8 mile hike in the Georgia mountains, they feel stable and secure. I took them on particularly rocky terrain, and found myself being more careful than I had to be when traversing. These keep your ankles upright and secure, which is always a bonus for boots so lightweight.

Feature rich, these boots boast copper eyelets, water repellant leather (that looks very nice out of the box and doesn’t scuff too easily), and 1000D CORDURA uppers. In addition, the sole plate is 32% Kevlar, giving it both puncture resistance and a lighter weight. The countoured insole is very comfortable, and also antibacterial and antimicrobial. My dogs were only barking after the 7th mile – not bad at all for brand new boots.

That being said, I still did get some pretty gnarly blisters, but that’s most likely user error – I didn’t use bodyglide or powder before I headed out. I was probably too stoked to get out on the trails after weekends of heavy rain. That being said – be advised.

Truspec Arch Support

Don’t mind the mud…these got work done.

These boots also have a very cool feature which you won’t see highlighted on the website. The soles have rubber at an angle by the arch – which reminds me of Inov8 sneakers I always use when doing CrossFit workouts – similar to RopeTec. These are great candidates for O-Course training, or if you want to WOD in boots.

In closing, I found the Tru-Spec TAC 9in Assault Boots to be very comfortable and lightweight, in addition to being feature rich. The 9″ padded ankle collar provides ample support, without the wearer feeling like they’re wearing moon boots. The puncture resistant sole, 1000D CORDURA uppers, and leather uppers are very well made, and like I said before – these boots are quiet. I would highly recommend these for LEO, SWAT, First Responders, Selection Candidates or for a GORUCK event.
