One of world’s deadliest snipers leaves home in Canada to fight in Ukraine: ‘I have to help’
Snipers are playing a crucial role in defending the invasion of Ukraine. They have already taken out Top Russian Military Generals and Battlefield Commanders.
“I want to help them. It’s as simple as that,” the Canadian man, only identified as Wali to protect his family’s safety, told CBC. “I have to help because there are people here being bombarded just because they want to be European and not Russian.”
Wali is most known for his 2.5km/1.5 Mile long world record engagement in Afghanistan.
He likes to “Reach out and Touch” the enemy.
Wali is one of the most well-known military snipers in the world. A former member of Canada’s Royal 22nd Regiment, he earned his reputation during combat deployments in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2011. His nickname, “Wali,” meaning “protector” in Arabic, was given to him during his service overseas. Following his military career, he also volunteered alongside Kurdish forces fighting ISIS in Iraq, further adding to his legendary status among military enthusiasts and marksmen.

Wali is often associated with an extraordinary long-range engagement in Afghanistan reported at approximately 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles). While media reports have frequently linked him to some of the longest sniper engagements ever recorded, it is important to note that the officially confirmed world record belongs to another Canadian special operations sniper who made a 3.54-kilometer shot in Iraq in 2017. Regardless, Wali’s battlefield experience, precision marksmanship, and combat record have made him one of the most recognized snipers of the modern era and a respected figure within military circles worldwide.
