Summer Road Trip Gear List

Are you heading out on a big summer road trip?

Where are you going?

What gear are you thinking about taking?

Post up your list and where you are going in the comments below and we will pick a winner each week in the month of June.

If you click on any link we may get a commission from Amazon.com which helps keep gas in the truck and the lights turned on. So if you want to help a disabled veteran – click the link and buy toilet paper.

#1 BACKPACK
You are going to need a small back pack whether you are walking the strip in Venice, CA or hiking up to that waterfall in Brevard, North Carolina.

A good pack will last for year and keep all of your gear in one spot.

We like the Osprey Packs Backpack for light day hiking and it comes in at a price of around $50 so it is easy on the wallet.

You can load up all of the basics and head out on your next mini-adventure right away.

I fill up the hydration bladder, add a rain jacket and cap if needed –  and some snacks and hit the road.

#2 SHORTS

Ready for a cool dip after a long hike up the mountain?

You need a pair of shorts that you can hike, bike and swim in.

Something that is light weight but also will dry fast and take a ton of abuse.

We like the 511 Tactical shorts for all around warm weather stuff.

Use can use these in the gym for a workout or on your next surfing safari.

#3 HYDRATION BLADDER
Its going to get hot out there in July so you need to have extra water to get you through the day.

We use the Camelbak 70 oz Antidote Replacement Reservoir and personally have several of them for hiking and off road bike riding.

They are easy to clean and you can load them up with ice to keep your water extra cold on those steamy hot days.

Easy to clean and can take a ton of abuse.

I just ordered a Insulated Hydration Bladder Sleeve for the bag and hose to keep them both extra cool.

#4 SUNGLASSES
The sun is going to be hot and brutal this summer so be ready to protect your eyes with a good pair of shades.

We like Electric Eyewear as they are easy on the wallet but deliver everything you need to keep those harmful rays off your face.

We also like Gatorz eyewear which are a big supporter of the Navy SEAL Foundation.

#5 Cool T-SHIRT

You gotta have a good tshirt to protect your body from the elements and mix in well with the backcountry local folks.

Check out our SGPT “Stronger People are harder to kill” shirt which can give you a 10 percent boost on your pull ups on your next workout.

If you get hot you can douse it in a stream and wear it on your head to stay cool.

#6 WATER BOTTLE or Cup
Yeah; you can dirt bag it and use an old red solo cup but that will only last a few times.

Upgrade your life and go for something that you will hand down to your kids and keep your drinks ice cold.

We like the Hydro Flask 32 oz Double Wall Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Tumbler Cup.

I personally own one and take it with me daily to the field and definitely on any rolling adventure.

This is my go to cup for the road.

#7 HEADLAMP
Whether you are looking for gear in the middle of the night in the back of your truck or setting up camp – you will need a good headlamp.

We like the Black Diamond Storm headlamp.

I personally have one in these lights in dash of my truck.

I have used it to navigate on my bike in the night or ready a book before falling asleep.

Must have for traveling.

#8 SLEEPING BAG
If you are camping outdoors or just setting up a bivvy on the beach you will need a sleeping bag to help shake off the cooler night temps.

We like the Marmot sleeping bags,

I personally own one of the Marmot bags and will be taking it with me this weekend on an off road bike tour in the mountains of north Georgia.

I have also taken it to the beach, slept in the back of my truck a few times and the dogs like it as a dog pad. It gets a ton of use.

#9 Hat
I usually go with the truckers cap for day to day but if I can find it in the back closet – I break out the old green floppy hat.

#10 Flip Flops
These are my go to flip flops for day to day use at the beach or for a short hike with the dogs. The only thing i dont like is that if they get wet then your foot slides around. But overall these are super comfortable and wear well for the price
