SGPT: Tell us about yourself?
MS: I’m 52 years old. I’ve one wife, two children and a dog. I work as a patrol officer. I like to stay in shape so I do the cooking at home also. In my freetime I like to do “things” with my family, like a MTB tour, Hiking, swimming or a long walk with the dog. MS: No, I’ve no athletic background. My sports background startet in the past because I served 12 years as an Airborn soldier. After my military time I work as a Patrol Officer and we have to do official sports two times a week. MS: My doughter came to me and told me, that she want to do this. You’ve to know, she is only 11 years old. But she do Thai Boxing since she is 4 years old so she is fit. We made the plan for the whole family to do this kind of event!!! The plan was fix so the question was now how to train?!? But we found very quickly the answer – Seal Grinder PT. I’ve done different SGPT workouts bevor and they will work. So we checkt out witch SGPT-Plan is good for us and the best training to consist the Mud Masters. We had found the “SGPT 60 Day Goruck Plan” and dicided to do this and it was no mistake!!! So we startet as a family 60 days before the Mud Masters. MS: Yahh the event… it was so bloody hot his day. The sun was burning and we’ve had 38° degrees. The event was in a very hilly area with a lot of mud and waterholes. We had “only” 16 km to run but on the track we had 30 obstacles like Great Wall, Monkey Bars, Mud Hills, Mud Crawl, Up & Unders, Buddy Carry, Wood Climb, Tubes, Rope Climb, Load Carry… So it was no stroll. But at the end we had finished!!! MS: The hardest part was the Rope Climb and the Monkey Bars for all of us. Because for these obstacles you need power in the forearm and this was our weak spot. MS: With the SGPT 60 Day Goruck plan we were very goog prepared. But for the next time I’ll do more for the power in the forearm. MS: Any kind of tips…actually only one – do the SGPT Goruck workout and you’ll be also a finisher at every Goruck Event!!! MS: I’ve used boots from Haix. The “Black Eagle Tactical 2.0 GTX/Mid”. MS: We all used compression socks from Stox. They worked very well!!! MS: I used the Goruck GR1 with a 20 lbs plate. This one is very great and I also use this ruck on duty. MS: At this time I read a book from Mark Divine “The way of the Seal” and I sometimes listen to the podcast from Jocko Willink. MS: I’ve to say “Thank you” for the chance to share our Goruck Story. And a big thank you to you Coach for all this great workout plans.
