We catch up with a member of Team SGPT and founding member of CrossFit Grinder – Scott Kemp. He is just getting back from the BattleFrog event.
SGPT: Tell us about yourself?
SK: I am a 55 year old Entrepreneur and business owner I live in Atlanta, Georgia.
BattleFrog Race
SGPT: Did you have an athletic background growing up?
SK: Yes I did , I played H.S. Football and studied Martial Arts most of my life.
SGPT: How did you train for the Battle Frog event?
SK: I increased my trail running especially hills and did some grip strength work and rope climbing.
SGPT: Tell us a little about the event? Where was it?
SK: The event was awesome the Navy SEALs did a few Helicopter fast rope assault drills for the spectators and ushered the competitors off with a few smoke Grenades and some demolition charges to get the blood flowing. The event took place at the Georgia Olympic horse park in Conyers Georgia.
SGPT: What was hardest part of the event?
SK: The whole event was tuff, I mean Navy SEAL tuff! 9 miles and 25 Obstacles , every obstacle was Hard! But the Tsunami dedicated to
LT Michael Murphy was a deal breaker for many.
SGPT: What is one thing you wish you would have done to get ready for race?
SK: I wish I had done more grip strength work , pull ups, and climbing.
SGPT: Any tips for up and coming athletes that want to do the Battle Frog?
SK: I would train hard for at least 8 weeks before a BattleFrog, get comfortable with a long run once a week 8-10 miles ,3 days a week 4-5 mile run and lots of climbing , pull ups, and most important grip strength!
SGPT: What foot wear did you use? Socks? Body glide?
SK: I did use body Glide and a good pair of running shoes, the smartest thing a saw was a guy compression socks up over his Calfs to avoid
rope burn.
SGPT: Many thanks for the interview
SK: My Pleasure Brad , a big thanks to Don Mann and all those who made the event possible.
