Mali Immigrant in France Saves Boy From Falling

Mamoudou Gassama, a native of Mali living in Paris, climbed four stories, Navy SEAL-style to save a young boy dangling from a fifth-floor balcony. When he reached the boy, he pulled him to safety. An adult standing nearby seemed apparently unable to do anything for the boy.

Gassama, 22, living illegally in Paris, made his way from Mali, an unstable region in Africa, through Burkina Faso, Niger and into Libya. From there, he crossed Mediterranean Sea into Italy, where he lived for four years before arriving in France to join his brother in September of 2017. Gassama had no documentation.

Because of his illegal status, he has been sleeping on the floor of a cramped apartment in Montreuil, a suburb of Paris.

However, President Emmanuel Macron, after meeting with Gassama afterwards, has promised him documentation to live and work legally in France.

According to Parisian authorities, the father of the young boy whom Gassama, was out shopping and playing Pokémon Go while his son almost fell to his death.

The father will be charged with “missing in action”, the French equivalent of child endangerment.
