Navy SEAL Jocko Willink On Real Martial Arts

Check out this video on how Navy SEAL Jocko Willink reveals what he calls “real martial arts” and gives tips for self-defense that anyone can use to protect themselves.

TIP #1
Get a gun.

The best way to protect yourself is to get a gun, conceal and carry it. (Make sure you follow the concealed carry laws of your city, state and county.)

Go to the shooting range, learn how to shoot and practice. Make sure you do this on a regular basis.

TIP #2:
Start training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

This is the best type of martial arts to learn as it it uses the most practical movements you can learn protect yourself—either on your feet or on the ground. Especially if you need to get away from someone.

Another good form of martial arts is western-style boxing (think Rocky or Muhammad Ali). This will teach you how to punch someone in the face while maintaining distance from your attacker.

Muay Thai is another great one to learn so you know how to strike and clinch.

Wrestling will also help you as you learn how to take people down or defend yourself against take downs.

TIP #3:
Martial arts teaches you discipline and humility.

These two things are another reason to train for martial arts besides self defense.

1) When you get submitted (“yielded”) to another opponent who is smaller or weaker than you, that is absolutely humbling.

2) It takes discipline to get on the mat on a daily basis and prove yourself.
