US Marines Eliminate Taliban Kingpin

A high-ranking Taliban official, Qari Fida Mohammad, was killed in an airstrike by US Air Force F-16s a few days before Christmas.

For the last decade, Mohammad has been responsible for acting as the mastermind behind IEDs that killed and maimed troops from all branches of the military.

Considered a “shadow governor” of the Helmand district of Marjah, Mohammad was tracked by intelligence operations from both the US and Afghan forces, until his location was pin-pointed on December 20, 2017.

The US Marines then called in the USAF F-16s to execute the strike.

The intelligence task forces will now monitor the impact of Mohammed’s death, and US Marines will train the Afghan National Army to protect and hold the province.
