The GORUCK GR1 backpack has built up loyalty over the past few years as one of the top go-to ruck packs around. It was voted best tactical backpack by SEALgrinderPT.com by our viewers.

This ruck has a bullet proof build, made in the USA, and no questions asked SCARS program. You break it, they fix or replace it. They just want the back story, especially if sent in with bullet holes or imbedded frags.

GR1 Construction and Durability:

Both the GORUCK GR1 Pack and the Mystery Ranch Urban Assault are built to withstand demanding environments. The GR1 Pack is constructed from 1000D Cordura fabric, known for its exceptional durability and resistance to abrasions. The Urban Assault, on the other hand, features a combination of 500D Cordura nylon and YKK zippers, which provide excellent durability while keeping the weight relatively lighter. In terms of overall construction, the GR1 Pack offers a more rugged build, making it highly suitable for intense outdoor activities.

Capacity and Organization:

The GORUCK GR1 Pack offers a 26-liter capacity, providing ample space for your essentials. It features a large main compartment with an internal laptop sleeve, along with various internal and external pockets for organizing smaller items.

The Mystery Ranch Urban Assault has a slightly larger capacity of 21 liters, making it suitable for day trips or EDC (Everyday Carry). Its three-zip design allows for quick and easy access to the main compartment, and it includes internal pockets and a front admin panel for organizing your gear. If you require more storage space, the GR1 Pack would be the better choice.

Comfort and Ergonomics:

Both backpacks are designed with comfort in mind, but they employ different approaches. The GORUCK GR1 Pack features a padded and contoured shoulder harness with a sternum strap, ensuring a comfortable fit even during long treks. It also includes a padded back panel for added comfort and ventilation. The Mystery Ranch Urban Assault incorporates their patented Futura Yoke system, which provides excellent weight distribution and comfort. The yoke system allows for easy adjustment and customization based on your body shape. If comfort is your top priority, the choice may come down to personal preference and how each pack fits your body.

MOLLE Compatibility and Expansion Options:

The GORUCK GR1 Pack offers extensive MOLLE webbing on the front and sides, allowing for modular attachments and customization. This feature makes it versatile and adaptable for various outdoor and tactical needs. The Mystery Ranch Urban Assault, on the other hand, does not have as much MOLLE webbing but offers a more streamlined and sleek appearance for urban environments. If you prioritize customization and expandability, the GR1 Pack is the clear winner.

GORUCK GR1 PACK REVIEW:

I’ll be honest I got sticker shock the first time I looked at these bags. But having owned one for a while now I am satisfied with my choice. The bag is practical, and extremely tough- built to be beat up, and the SCARS warranty that comes on them is outstanding.

After three GORUCK Challenge events, and numerous training rucks carrying 30 to 40 pounds of bricks in the bag I had an issue with the shoulder straps on my bag, I sent SCARS an email and they sent me a shipping label to send it in for refurbishment. I put a real beating on the GORUCK GR1 pack – it doesn’t come apart, and if there is an issue they stand behind it 100%. That kind of quality and customer service is worth the $dollars$$ in my opinion.

MYSTERY RANCH URBAN ASSAULT PACK REVIEW

They make good packs. They are Dana Design packs. After Dana sold Dana Design to K2, he wanted to get back to making packs and started Mystery Ranch. My one suggestion would be to try one on first (I know not possible there) but IMO fit is more important than the name on the pack.

I have a Mystery Ranch Urban Assault pack. They are made right here in Bozeman. They are a great pack and very adjustable, so I dont think fit will be an issue. They are spendy but I believe guaranteed for life.

They are made of the best zippers, buckles etc. If you’re a grunt, like me – maybe you’ll get one from the US Military because they make a lot of packs for the military. Take care and happy backpacking.
Price: 24 liter You can pick one up for under $180 depending on where you shop.

CONCLUSION:

In summary, both the GORUCK GR1 Pack and the Mystery Ranch Urban Assault are exceptional tactical backpacks with their own strengths. The GR1 Pack offers superior durability, greater storage capacity, and extensive customization options with its MOLLE webbing. It is ideal for outdoor adventures and tactical use. On the other hand, the Urban Assault provides a comfortable fit with its innovative Futura Yoke system, a streamlined design suitable for urban settings, and a more budget-friendly price tag.

Questions from athletes in our gym.

Question: How would you compare the GoRuck vs Alice pack? The GoRuck is constructed very well and cost more. The Alice pack is much cheaper and can do the job but is not going to be quite as comfortable.
