During the Las Vegas shooting that occurred on October 1, 2017, self-proclaimed internet personality and gambler Dan Bilzerian attempted to cajole a police officer into providing him with a weapon by claiming he, too, was a police officer.
However, no police force in the country has him listed as an officer.
As it turns out, Bilzerian’s “credentials” were purchased from a shell agency which has an essentially non-existent reserve police force in the city of city of Lake Arthur, New Mexico (population 433). Bilzerian has (allegedly) paid them hundreds of dollars per year in exchange for worthless credentials.
Lake Arthur’s uncertified “Police Chief” Will Norwood gave out law enforcement credentials to his friends and quasi-celebrities from around the country in exchange for $400 per year “dues.”
Purportedly, the list also includes Lone Survivor ex-SEALs Marcus Luttrell Robert O’Neil and Andrew Arrabito, SEAL washout Dan Bilzerian, billionaire Robert Mercer, and martial arts experts Royce and Royler Gracie and David Adiv.
It’s presumed these “reserve officers” use their credentials to allow them to carry concealed firearms under the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA.) However, LEOSA requires that officers be employed by an accredited law enforcement agency to have actual statutory powers of arrest. The reserve “force” of Lake Arthur does not.
It appears Bilzerian is still trying to collect himself into a world he believes he belongs; in 2000 he entered the US Navy SEAL training program, but failed after several attempts; the official report is that he was dropped from the program due a “safety violation on the shooting range.”
Though he has 23 million Instagram followers, a strong number to back up the claim of celebrity, it’s good to remember that thousands—if not millions—of followers can be generated by the use of bots—which is really no different than the purchasing of police “credentials”.
Among his other achievements is his ongoing feud with Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, whom he calls a “retard”.
Meyer is a US Marine and veteran of the War in Afghanistan, and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Ganjgal on 8 September 2009, in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
Bilzerian’s next goal is to “create the first global cannabis brand” by taking his company Green Axis public.
