When you think of combat, or gear review, you don’t think about flip flops. I know. But these are interesting in their own way. First off, Combat Flip Flops is a veteran owned and operated business, of which we will be doing a bunch of showcases in 2017 about veteran owned businesses and their various products and missions. Griff is a former special operator, who wanted to make a difference when he got out – but we’ll get into that and his story later, in another post.
Combat Flip Flops are handmade by locals – operating under the paradigm “Business, not bullets.” Made in Colombia, proceeds from these handmade items go to help Afghan girls with schooling, something groundbreaking in itself. In fact, Mark Cuban of Shark Tank backed this company, that’s how cool what they’re doing it.
I’m not a flip flop guy. I wear sneakers, boots, or dress shoes – that’s about it.
But the Combat Flip Flops were extremely comfortable and high quality – and made by people looking for work, not a handout.
These pieces are crafted with high quality leather, and the thong (the part between the toes) doesn’t dig in or chafe like other footwear of it’s kind. As an added flair of badassery – these have 7.62 mm casings embedded in the foot strap. Combat Flip Flops also have a combat boot rubber outsole, EVA midlayers, and have embossed popples. In short, they are made to last. I wore them exclusively – except when hiking in the jungle – for just over a week, and they got more comfortable with each day.
Now aside from the high quality nature of the footwear, they also have the following benefits:
Made in Bogota, Colombia
Yes, the flip flops are made in Bogota. Colombia provides the “shining example” of what should be done to fight a narco-financed insurgency.
1. Disrupt The Enemy
2. Provide Good Public/Private Policy that Creates Jobs.
3. Let businesses do the work.
4. Make rad products that keep the cycle going.
