Stay Healthy During the Holidays – Navy SEAL Mindset

Eating healthy during the holidays can be a challenge, but it’s certainly possible with mindful choices and planning. Here are 10 tips to help you maintain a healthy diet during the festive season:

Plan and Prepare:

Plan your meals and snacks ahead of time to stay healthy. When you prepare in advance, it’s easier to choose healthier foods and avoid making bad decisions at the last minute. Prior planning sets you up for success.

Portion Control:

Be mindful of portion sizes, especially during holiday feasts. Use smaller plates, and try to avoid going back for seconds.

You don’t need a second plate of turkey and dressing. Eat one plate and be done. Have discipline.

Balance Your Plate:

Aim for a balanced plate with a mix of lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of colorful vegetables. This ensures you get a variety of nutrients.

Stay Hydrated:

Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Sometimes, feelings of hunger are actually signs of dehydration.

Limit Sugary Drinks:

Be cautious of sugary beverages like sodas and excessive alcoholic drinks. Opt for water, herbal teas, or infused water instead.

Choose Lean Proteins:

Opt for lean protein sources such as turkey, chicken, fish, or plant-based proteins. These can help you feel full and provide essential nutrients.\

Include Fiber:

Incorporate fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your meals. Fiber helps with digestion and can keep you feeling satisfied.

Limit Processed Foods:

Minimize your intake of processed and packaged foods, as they often contain unhealthy fats, sugars, and additives.

Be Mindful of Desserts:

Enjoy your favorite holiday desserts in moderation. Share a portion with someone or choose smaller portions to satisfy your sweet tooth without overindulging.

Stay Active:

Make sure that you add physical activity into your holiday routine. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a workout, or active play with family and friends, staying active can help offset extra calories and boost your mood.

Remember, the holidays are a time to enjoy and celebrate, so it’s okay to indulge occasionally. The key is moderation and making mindful choices to maintain a healthy balance.
