Don Shipley is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL recognized for his 24-year career and his outspoken work exposing individuals who falsely claim military service. He enlisted in the Navy in 1978 and earned his SEAL Trident in 1984 after completing BUD/S Class 131. Over the course of his service, Shipley served with SEAL Team One, SEAL Team Two, the Naval Special Warfare Center, and Naval Special Warfare Group Two. He completed eight SEAL platoons, serving as platoon chief for five of them.
Shipley conducted operations in Bosnia and Liberia and became the first non-corpsman SEAL to graduate from paramedic school. He received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism during a search and rescue mission. His specialties included air operations, land warfare, demolitions, and explosives, and he also served as a SEAL Advanced Training Instructor.
After retiring in 2003 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, Shipley worked as a security contractor for Blackwater in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He later founded Extreme SEAL Experience, a civilian program designed to simulate aspects of SEAL training and push participants physically and mentally.
Shipley gained widespread public attention for his efforts to combat stolen valor, particularly through his YouTube series Phony Navy SEAL of the Week, which he produces with his wife, Diane. Together, they investigate and expose individuals falsely claiming SEAL service. He also contributes to military-focused platforms such as SOFREP.com.
Across both his military career and post-service work, Shipley has remained committed to supporting the SEAL community and protecting the integrity of legitimate military service.
