Yesterday, we posted Part 1 of a video showing Marines raiding a Taliban opium factory. Here is the second part.
Afghanistan is the world’s largest resource for opium, and therefore heroin (which is made from it) exported 9,000 metric tons of opium in 2017. That’s 87% higher than 2016.
Nearly half of Afghan opium is processed into either heroin or morphine before it is trafficked out of the country, according to U.S. and Afghan officials.
While US and Afghan forces working to curb the opium trade, British forces commandeered nearly $65 million worth of opium in 2017.
Watch Part 2 of this video series; in it, the Taliban tries to defend their factory from the US Marines.
What will the final outcome be?
Stay tuned for Part 3!
