US Navy SEAL Jocko Willink: The Christmas Seige of Bastogne, Belgium in 1944

The siege lasted for a week in December of 1944, from the 20th through the 27th, and was a part of the Battle of the Bulge.

In this awesome video, Jocko Willink talks about the hardships American forces endured in the cold, snowy forests of the Ardennes highlands.

Christmas is not always merry and bright for everyone; for some, whether active duty military or veterans, the celebration comes with memories similar to the ones the men at Bastogne carried with them for the rest of their lives.

But, to that—many of these men also remembered companionship and how, even though they were likely scared and deeply homesick, they were still with people who were, and remained, family.

What are some of your fondest Christmas memories? What are some that have strong nostalgia, even if you were away from home? How did you celebrate?
