Navy SEAL Paul Tharp Talks Mental Toughness

Navy SEAL mental toughness

What are you going to do next? What is your next goal?

Mental toughness is about more than just being strong for the 10 minutes of your CrossFit workout.

It is about being strong for the long haul for 24 hours, 60 hours, over the years and even decades.

It’s about deciding to override and pushing through your body’s decision to quit and the negative thinking running in your head.

It means getting back up after you have had the $#%t kicked out of you – dusting yourself off and rising up to the next challenge.

You see – Master Chief has developed his mind and body to embrace a lifestyle. He challenges himself daily – which leads to the years and decades.

He is 42 years young – but can blow 22 year old guys out of the water. His mind is strong and his body follows.

He is on a life long journey of the pursuit of excellence. He puts aside the FEAR and moves forward towards his goals.

Question: Coach, how to change self talk and mental toughness?

Answer: With a 3×5 card write down every time you make a negative mental statement. Then next to that statement write a positive statement. This will be your new mantra that you will say to yourself with negative ideas pop into your head.
